I was asked by CBC radio to write a piece of music that reflected how newly emigrated cultures had influenced the music of Nova Scotia. The resulting ‘Fire in the Sky’ is a fiddling inspired piece incorporating instruments from around the world as well as traditional instruments from Nova Scotia. Not long after its performance I found myself wanting to explore music from beyond the borders of Nova Scotia.
I imagined myself a traveler, a Nova Scotian Gypsy, journeying across the ocean to lands far away. This record is a collection of songs that represent this concept. On this album you will find instrumentals as well as vocal songs of hope, love and change. Each song colored with sounds from home and around the world. I hope you enjoy!
